Discover 5 Benefits of Cycling

Although many of our ShokzSquad members use their AfterShokz for running or jogging, cycling is another hugely popular form of cardio that your Shokz pair perfectly with! Read on for the many benefits of cycling and how it can enhance your everyday life.

Versatility

The great thing about cycling is that it is extremely versatile, and you can do it almost anywhere! If you own a bike, you can forgo driving and use it as an alternative mode of transport, to explore nearby trails, or go all-out to become a competitive cyclist! If you don’t own a bike, you can utilize a stationary bike (most gyms will include this option) paired with an app such as Peloton or Zwift for indoor cycling workouts to fit your goals. Cycling is also a great family-friendly way to exercise while getting in some family bonding time.

Affects The Whole Body

Although many people think of cycling as a workout that primarily focuses on leg strength, that’s not the case! While cycling does target lower body muscles such as the glutes, quads, and hamstrings, it also functions as a great core workout by strengthening your abdominal and back muscles, which in turn can lead to better balance and good posture.

Cycling, like many other forms of exercise, is also a great way to lessen the effects of stress and depression by releasing endorphins. Aerobic regular exercise is also known to boost creativity, so you can work your brain while you work your body!

Easy On Joints

Unlike exercises like running or jogging, cycling is a low-impact way to clock some miles, as most of your body is being supported by the bike seat. Cycling can also strengthen the muscles around your knee to better support joint health

Lessens Risk Of Disease

A recent study conducted by the University Of Glasgow touts cycling at least 30 miles per week as a way to cut your risk of heart disease and cancer by nearly half. While they also analyzed walking as an exercise form, it was determined that cyclists see more benefits due to the long distances traveled and higher intensity.

Environmentally Friendly

While we’ve already covered that you can use your bike to commute to work, thus releasing fewer carbon emissions than driving or public transportation, that’s not the only way that cycling helps the environment! It only takes around 5% of the materials and energy used to build a car to build a bike, and it’s more efficient than driving or even walking! Cyclists are also exposed to far less air pollution than those who ride in a car, bus, or taxi.
