Be A Better You In 2019

Hey everyone! I'm Janelle, and I'm a ShokzStar in the Philadelphia suburbs. I'm a runner at heart but also love cross-training, strength training and ice cream (most importantly). I have a few big goals for the new year and wanted to share them with you.


It's 2019, and I'm still the same me. I don't want to be a new person; I want to be a BETTER person. I want to be stronger, happier and more present. I want to wake up early, work my tail off to get after my goals, and I want to enjoy every moment that I'm sweating and struggling to make that happen! Here's what I have in store for 2019:


1. STRENGTH

    2018 had some peaks and valleys. I was out injured for the first four months of the year, struggling to cross-train and find answers from doctors and physical therapists. Once I started running again from ground zero in April, with a bit of grit (and some help from my coach), I came back and finished my first full marathon at Marine Corps Marathon in October. I learned many lessons, and while I'm still dealing with some additional injuries, I'm coming back this year with force. In 2019 my word of the year is STRENGTH. Right now, I'm in the gym three times a week doing strength training and focusing on my weaknesses that have caused injury. I honestly think I'm the strongest I've been in a long time (maybe even stronger than college days playing soccer). Who says it's all downhill after you hit 30? Forget that; I don't believe it for a second.


    2. PERFORMANCE GOALS

      I have two big goals looking forward in 2019. I'm going after my half marathon PR, and I will complete my second marathon! I'm signed up for the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon in March and the Scranton Half Marathon in April. I originally planned on aiming for a new PR in March, but my training has started up slowly after taking the past month off. As the saying goes - write your goals in the sand and your timeline in stone. If all goes well, I hope to put the pedal to the metal in April and come out with a shiny new PR sub-1:46. If not, there are plenty of months left in the year to go after it again! In November, I'm running my second marathon at the Philadelphia Marathon which is in my backyard. Neither of these goals would be possible without my coach, who I am super grateful for.  


      3. ENJOY MYSELF

        99% of the time you will see me running and working out with friends- that's because it's always more enjoyable with others. Part of the reason I run is for the community and the lasting friendships that I have formed. These people have become my family, and I love every minute I spend with them running and laughing like fools. If I'm not having fun running, then I'm not doing it right.


        Here's to 2019 and focusing on being a BETTER person. Because I am still the same ME and proud of it!
